Teaching

Before language,

womben dancing together

took care of business

everywhere.

Thirteen times the changing moon, our calendar,

turns Her month around the sun’s year.

Thirteen menstrual cycles reflect

that necklace of unending life.

Once we were moon-wise,

flowing, cycling together,.

How much we have forgotten!

Remember to breathe!

What awe to find Turtle’s shell,

a precious gift,

our portable reminder:

13 big plates count the year’s months,

28 small plates bordering

count the month’s days,

common red ocher earth

useful for marking memory.

How did the moon

shape Turtle’s teaching shell

so well?

Sky Woman arches Her Sky dome,

over the curved earth,

Turtle Mother, our generous home.

Our every step is prayer of thanks,

our track a ‘beauty way’

on Her strong back,

patched by land and sea.

We are the sacred marriage

of future and past!

We are womb of life, moon-like, turtle-like.

We are shape-changing

puzzles of broken pieces:

two become three, trinity, family,

rejoined, rejoicing, made whole,

balanced, in harmony.

We have forgotten what we knew:

we are precious, gifted, treasured, by

the earth and sky.
