More
To praise creation we must praise
the wave as more than water:
surge and curl and undertow,
froth crashing lacy at the world edge,
intertwined with moonlight
and moon-phase.
To praise creation
we must praise the More.

When earth first bathed in amniotic bliss
She was the sea it swam in.
Creating all, emergent,
She was the sea, sustaining, nourishing,
in them as well as all around them,
pulsing, restless, challenging.
She rocked them, rocked them at Her breast.
She was the unbroken fluid cycle
of birth, life, death, rebirth.
She was the light that swam in the depths,
the sun, the moon, the source,
the landscape underwater,
wavering like a dream.
