Gibraltar
Rock of Ages,
adamant,
vajra diamond, lotus jewel:
I Am iron earth
beneath the bleeding velvet glove,
cavern and carving sea,
and wailing wind.
I Am crucible, fire,
molten lava, searing wave,
I Am Milky Way and snow-drift,
filigree of atoms whirling,
each individual
precious, astonishing!
I Am the past caught in amber dream,
prophesy in a crystal ball,
rock that will embrace roots.
My breasts are mountains,
yet I move mountains,
vistas endless, undulant.
Human vision sucks these crystal teats:
My dicta, predicting hope,
written in stone.
